Bluebell Croft, Strontian

Bluebell Croft is an almost self sufficient croft with adjoining high quality self-catering cottages. Open since July 2006, the cottages have been fully booked and are already booked for most weeks of 2007 thanks in no small part to the food which is available, and is promoted, as part of the holiday experience.

Bill and Sukie have created 5 star luxury self catering holiday accommodation on the Ardnamurchan peninsular and provide the warmest welcome possible. In addition to the accommodation, they also offer a wide range of home-made food, from a simple supper to a 5 course dinner all prepared by Sukie, former 'Rural Chef of the Year'. Or, if guests prefer it, a casserole can be left in the Aga or oven so that it is available when guests arrive. 

The accommodation adjoins their own croft, where the only Jersey cow in Lochaber provides milk, and where they grow a wide variety of fruit and vegetables and raise pigs, calves, chickens for eggs and meat, ducks and geese. All of this can be available in a welcome hamper, together with home-made preserves, home-made organic bread and lots of goodies from their own smoke-house including smoked salmon, cheese, bacon and ham. 

Their enthusiasm for using fresh, local, seasonal food, and Sukie’s skills at turning wonderful ingredients into memorable meals, was one of the reasons she was made ‘Rural Chef of the Year’ by the Scottish Chefs’ Association and given the ‘Flavour of Scotland’ award from VisitScotland.
